The Role
The Project Planner will support in the planning and delivery of a range of live heat network
construction projects of the following typical scope:
- Plantroom and network end of life equipment replacements.
- Full plantroom and network retrofits to improve performance.
- Heat pump retrofits to decarbonise existing buildings (e.g. PSDS project delivery management).
- HIU and heat meter upgrade/replacement works.
- District Heating project installations, including energy centres, buried networks and substation plantrooms.
The Position
As the Project Planner you will be expected to:
- Be fully conversant with Microsoft Project and SmartSheets.
- Prepare and update design, procurement and construction programmes for prequalifications, funding applications, tenders and live projects.
- Develop, maintain and update project programmes in accordance with NEC contract requirements, ensuring the integration of all project activities and alignment with contractual requirements.
- Recording of relevant events for potential entitlement claims.
- Reporting findings and recommending solutions to recover delays.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to define assignments and tasks to complete the project.
- Monitor progress on each project task and report potential issues, delays and adjust the schedule to compensate.
- Assist in the development of strategies to ensure projects remain within budgets with clear actions and mitigation measures.
- Assist in the analysis of resourcing requirements and logistic solutions.
- Attending and presenting at client meetings.
- Review and comment on subcontractor programmes.
- Providing advice and support on the development of specific systems of working.
- Preparing project and activity feedback reports.
- Support the development of new tools and systems and ad hoc projects
- Support in identifying, scoping, receiving management sign off and then project managing:
- Business improvement tools such as new processes and documentation.
- Assist the Head of Delivery in managing projects to ensure safe delivery within time and cost, ensuring clear, timely communication to both clients and the MD when likely overruns are identified.
The Person
- Ideally degree qualified in project management/relevant engineering discipline, minimum HND/HNC.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in engineering project planning and/or technical awareness of M&E systems/heat networks.
- A thorough and demonstrable knowledge of planning software such as MS Project and SmartSheets.
- Demonstrable experience in contract and tender planning with an ability to take the lead in the programme and time management of construction projects
- Demonstrable experience in tenders and contracts administered under JCT and NEC forms of contract.
- Appropriately trained and knowledgeable in Health and Safety, with a CSCS card/SMSTS.
- An understanding of planning best practices.
- An energetic, proactive, hands-on, confident and self-motivated approach with experience in a similar role.
Desirable
- Direct experience of planning the delivery of internal building communal heating system upgrade works (dwelling, network and plantroom).
- Direct experience with the planning of major Energy Centre and/or buried network projects for large scale District Heating networks.
- Knowledge of District Heating network design, construction and operations.
- Knowledge of Primavera P6.
- APM/PRINCE2 or equivalent Project Management Qualification.
