Overview
We are currently in the market for a Technical Services Manager who will cover SE London, Central London, Midlands and Nottingham. You be required to work mobile around Central London combined with travel to one of the other areas mentioned in your remit.
The company in question are a national provider of energy metering, monitoring, billing and other related services to community and district heating schemes. The successful schemes are owned by Local Authorities, Housing Associates and Private Landlord throughout the UK.
The business’ overall aim is to continue to be one of the biggest providers of services to community and district heating schemes across the UK
Your role will be to take responsibility for a team of engineers based in Central London, South East London, Midlands and Nottingham overseeing both CMV and reactive maintenance of communal heating systems, including consumer interface units, metering, ARM systems and prepayment systems in Domestic and Commercial properties.
Role Description
- Development of engineering staff within your region, mentoring and developing
- Managing a team of Gas Engineers (Commercial)
- Take a ‘hands on’ approach when required and sign off Commercial Gas works on Plant Rooms
- Ensure all Engineers are trained and equipped with necessary van stock to deliver on the set SLA’s
- Planning and organising the regions resource, aiding the scheduling of work to engineers
- Complete risk assessments and method statements for all sites
- Completion of a component listing for each site in the region
- Working closely with the Technical and Warehousing Management teams- this information will be validated for commonality and then linked to the service management systems to allow for more informed training and stock control processing
- Quality Assurance of compliance to contractual obligations
- Health and Safety Management on all sites and working procedures
- Assistance in the resource planning of field staff taking into account training days, holiday, sickness levels etc
- Improvement of engineer efficiency across all areas and auditing the quality of workmanship and professionalism
- Reduce down time and none production time
- Increase first fix rate through training, knowledge and van stock
- Auditing or activities to ensure compliance
- Carry out site visits and obtain POS agreements
- Overseeing status reports on all PPM within region
- Liaise with on-site contractors regarding any snagging issues
- Running team briefings with Field Ops Manager on a Quarterly basis
- Attending domestic properties to monitor engineers completing PPM
- Managing engineers performance when completing reactive maintenance
- Managing the commissioning and verification of new and existing metering systems / instillations
- Problem and ownership and management
- Manage and motivate Engineers against Company objectives and KPI’s
- Reduce engineer downtime and monitor non productive time
- Training plans, internal and external analysis
Skills & Attributes
- Experienced manager in communal heating schemes
- Previous working experience in Plant Rooms
- Ability to sign off Gas Works (Commercial)
- Previous Gas Engineering knowledge
- Electrical knowledge would be an advantage
- Ability to train Commercial Gas Engineers
- Strong man management skills to control a remote team of field engineers (up to 4)
- Multi-site management of maintaining completion data
- A detailed understanding of various types of meters and their operations
- A detailed understanding of how to install and maintain metering systems
- Good working knowledge of hydraulic systems including fault finding
- A detailed understanding of Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) systems including Mbus, Radio and DLC etc
- Thorough understanding of prepayment systems including point of sale units, prepayment units
- The use of specialist tools to perform the role, including pc peripherals and basic electrical testing equipment
- A ‘can do’ attitude to tasks and client requests
- Ability to foresee and / or react quickly to any problems which occur
