OVERVIEW & ROLE DESCRIPTION

Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Health and Safety Advisor on behalf of a multi-disciplinary construction, refurb and fit-out contractor based in West Yorkshire.

The company operate within the Industrial, Commercial and Retails sectors and manage contracts up to £10 million in value.

Role Description

  • Provide effective and positive health, safety and environmental support on all current legislation, policies and industry best practice.
  • Ensuring full compliance is maintained of the Company’s certification to ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
  • Facilitate and drive meaningful campaigns within the business unit.
  • Provide ongoing development and refinement to the improvement and implementation of the health, safety and environmental management system.
  • Provide briefing and coaching on company health, safety and environmental management systems.
  • Promote and encourage health, safety and environmental awareness amongst the managers and employees of the business unit by providing communications, awareness training and any other suitable means.
  • Ensuring all accidents are properly notified, investigated, reviewed and corrective actions are followed up.
  • Provide technical review for Construction Phase Plans.
  • Undertake site and office audits to ensure legal and company compliance.
  • Involved with pre-qualification and tender documentation for new bids.

Skills & Attributes

  • NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate.
  • Membership of IOSH (minimum membership: Technical).
  • Demonstrable experience in construction or fit out/interior works.
  • Ability to work autonomously and recognising when the Regional Health and Safety Manager’s involvement is required.
  • Requirement at times of working unsociable hours to undertake site audits of construction sites in retail environments (i.e. when the store has closed)
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and telephone), with the ability to work across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong reasoning skills with the ability to construct sound and persuasive arguments.
  • Ability to assimilate information quickly from a variety of sources in order to form a coherent fit for purpose response.
  • Ability to prioritise and focus upon key deliverables and activities.
