Position Overview
Expansion has created a need for an experienced, high caliber Principle Civil / Structural Engineer. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the successful candidate will eventually lead the Civil and Structural Engineering discipline for the Group in the UK. This is an excellent opportunity for someone seeking their next step up the career ladder, this will be a client-facing role, requiring the ability to inspire confidence from the taking of a client brief through proposal preparation and project execution. A key part of this role will be the management and development of staff, from graduate to senior specialist level.
Essential Job Functions:
- Develop scope of works and man hour estimates for inclusion in proposals
- Take responsibility for delivery of departmental output to time, budget and quality
- Carry out Front End design studies producing concept design schemes and deliverables
- Carry out detailed engineering including preparation of calculations and drawings directly and through supervision of other engineers.
- Review submissions and installations for compliance with design intent and good engineering practice, visiting construction sites for short periods as required.
- Act as project manager for engineering studies.
- Present the Group’s Civil and Structural Engineering capability to potential clients in support of proposals.
- Eventually manage, develop and mentor Civil and Structural Engineering staff at all levels, including the recruitment and development of graduate engineers.
- Liaise and coordinate with other disciplines within the UK offices, within other offices and with external consultants.
- Ensure the quality and consistency of the work carried out by the Civil and Structural Department, and ensure that maximum use is made of the Group’s systems and procedures.
Requirements:
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Chartered Engineer (or working towards)
- Demonstrated capability in Civil and Structural engineering design
- Several years professional experience
- Self motivating and self organising
- Reliable, consistent and mature approach to work
- Demonstrable ability to play a positive role in multi-discipline teams
- Professional approach and demeanour. A strong ethical approach to safety, quality, environmental protection and business.
- Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively with clients and peers at all levels, with good presentation skills.
