Overview
We are recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a specialist organisation who design, manufacture, commission and service bespoke machinery which is primarily used in the cleaning of engineering components within a manufacturing environment.
Established over 25 years ago the company provides automated solutions to clients in the Uk and overseas across a range of industries including Automotive, Aerospace and Nuclear applications.
The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the design and development of components, sub-assemblies and complete bespoke systems that meet customer specifications.
As the company manufacture automated machinery the Mechanical Design Engineer must have experience in this field and be able to deliver a full set of engineering drawings and bill of materials for all designs.
Role Responsibilities
- To provide a mechanical design service to the company creating detailed fabrication and manufacturing drawings
- Undertake mechanical design activities as required for new equipment and modify existing designs
- Prepare concept drawings to obtain quotations and basic costings
- Using SolidWorks, prepare a full set of drawings and BOMs for all designs
- Ensure all designs comply with best design codes of practice as well as meeting specifications, requirements, objectives and safety standards
- Liaise with other internal company departments as required
- Take the design lead on projects from the Design, Build, and testing of automated machines.
- Travel to site where the machines are built as required to assist with design related issues
- Support the project manager until completion of all related tasks.
- Integrate into the design team and share knowledge within the department and helping with the development of graduate design engineers.
- Produce technical documentation and operation manuals for machines
- Undertake ad hoc activities as directed by the Design Manager
Skills & Attributes
- Must have a Mechanical Engineering qualification HNC/HND (or a closely related discipline) or equivalent qualification
- Good eye for detail and solid knowledge of manufacturing processes to ensure accurate drawings
- Experience in the use of 3D CAD preferred (ideally SolidWorks).
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering, materials and fluids, automation desirable
- Ability to generate designs in a timely manner
- Excellent IT skills with a good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word programmes.
- Ability to generate designs in a timely manner
- Flexible and prepared to travel to subcontractors and customers as required in and outside the UK
