OVERVIEW & ROLE DESCRIPTION

Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Health & Safety Manager on behalf of a well-established maintenance and refurbishment contractor based in the South West.

Operating for over 20 years, they operate in a range of sectors including commercial, residential, industrial and healthcare.

As the Health and Safety Manager you will be working on a variety of construction projects across the South West, with values ranging from £5k to £3m. Projects include construction & refurbishment within the commercial and industrial sectors and maintenance. Their main sector is defence.

Liaising with clients, subcontractors and site operatives and managers, you will be responsible for implementing and ensuring compliance of all health & safety and environmental policies, procedures and regulations. Site visits / audits and subcontractors / supplier audits will be required, along with the updating and progressing of company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and ensure that the highest standards of Health & Safety and Environmental requirements are maintained at all times.
  • Creation, implementation, reviewing and management of Health & Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Creation and reviewing of risk assessments, method statements and COSHH assessments.
  • Pre-construction / Construction Phase Plan and H&S file creation and management.
  • Undertake site audits and inspections, identifying areas for improvement and reporting on the findings.
  • Assessing and managing safety hazards, including completion of H&S paperwork.
  • Ensuring appropriate site rules and welfare facilities are in place.
  • Carrying out regular health and safety inspections.
  • CDM advice and guidance.
  • Conduct training, toolbox talks, inductions and investigate incidents, where required.
  • Develop and implement best practice to improve performance.
  • Attending site and management meetings.
  • Supervise the implementation of work safety plans, method statements, risk assessments and other works procedures ensuring they comply with the relevant documentation. Monitor and report on their effectiveness.
  • Work collaboratively with external and internal departments to ensure smooth running of health and safety on site, taking appropriate action to address issues or concerns in a timely manner.

 

Skills & Attributes

  • Proven, minimum 5 years previous experience within a UK construction H&S and Environmental role.
  • NEBOSH and IOSH certificates would be beneficial.
  • CSCS, Asbestos Awareness, First Aid Training and Fire Marshall training would also be beneficial.
  • Able to achieve UK security clearance.
  • Knowledge of current Health & Safety and Environmental Legislation, including CDM.
  • Full, clean UK driving licence.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent IT skills and experience in Microsoft Office / 365, including word, excel, outlook, powerpoint, teams, etc.
  • Ability to communicate confidently with people at all levels.
  • Able to work under pressure to maintain deadlines.
