OVERVIEW & ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Opportunity

Our client provides a range of services to major Water Utility companies throughout the UK and Ireland, including planning, design, manufacture, through to installation and commissioning. Increased work load has created a new opportunity for an experienced Head of Engineering.

The Role

  • Production of Designs and manufacturing Drawings and all relevant calculations
  • Have a sound working knowledge of BS EN 1090
  • Provide guidance and authority on design, production methods and use of software (primarily Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD).
  • Staff management, organization and delegation of projects within the engineering departmental resource and pre-production engineers, in recognition of differing skill sets.
  • Promote the appropriate training and CPD of the Engineering department team members.
  • Monitoring and upholding the standards of drawing work produced, covering proposals, detailed designs and production drawings.
  • Ensuring suitable time is both allocated to and taken by drawing office team members for tasks.
  • Ensuring Engineering Department team members are aware of scheme specific design and budget constraints.
  • Supporting product qualification and approvals.
  • Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the design and engineering dept.
  • Direct, review, and approve product design and changes.
  • Work closely with all manufacturing dept, ensuring document control is maintained and that manufacturing procedures are practical and easy to follow.
  • Act as a designer and/or draughtsperson on schemes as required.

The Person

  • Experience in mechanical engineering of water-related structure/products and experience in the design and production of equipment in stainless steel sheet and pipework would be highly desirable.
  • A high level of experience with AutoDesk Inventor is essential, experience AutoDesk AutoCAD with Solidworks, BySoft, Navisworks and AutoDesk Plant 3D is also beneficial but not essential.
  • Experience in people management will be essential as is a thorough competency with Microsoft office suite software.
  • Relevant degree and associated chartership (CEng) desirable.
