OVERVIEW & ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Company 

Our client is an international engineering, architecture and project management firm. They are currently involved with over 30 major projects throughout Europe, Asia, USA and the Middle East. Established in 1973, they employ over 2,000 people, based in 25 locations worldwide. Their areas of specialty are in the Pharmaceutical, Bio-pharmaceutical, Food & Beverage, Advanced Manufacturing, Healthcare, Education, and Energy sectors.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Planner comprise of the planning, scheduling and monitoring of project activities and communication of the status of the project to the Project Manager and Project Team in order that the project be executed as effectively and efficiently as possible.  Primary tasks include:

  • Developing in conjunction with the Project manager the planning, scheduling systems and approach for the specific project. This will at minimum include the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for the project, the update cycle for progress measurement and the requirements for man-hour planning and control.
  • Developing and issuing the Baseline schedule Notes for the project baseline schedule.
  • Developing in conjunction with the project manager and discipline leads the plan for Man-hour expenditure and measuring of progress achievement, including the baseline ‘S’ curves.
  • Undertaking risk analysis of the schedule.
  • Determining and communicating to the Project Manager and Project Team areas of schedule delay
  • Facilitating the project team in finding remedies to any project delays.
  • Logging changes to the project schedule and maintaining records of all schedule related issues during the execution of a project.
  • Organising and facilitating workshops at critical phases of the project to achieve agreement and buy-in to a workable detailed schedule.
  • Producing the schedule after a schedule workshop.
  • Ensuring that all elements of the schedule are integrated and are capable of being integrated with other project schedules especially any Customer schedules.
  • Identifying and communicating the Critical and near critical paths for the project.
  • Ensuring that Tender Packages adequately describe contractors’ required planning and scheduling obligations.
  • Assessing the compliance of contractors’ schedules with safety, project and contractual requirement.
  • Preparing from the agreed schedule, any look-ahead schedules required.
  • Ensuring that contractor planning and scheduling efforts and team meets with the project and contractual requirements.
  • Assessing impact of changes on schedule and advising on claims involving delay, disruption and Extension of Time.

 Academic/Professional Requirements:

  • Relevant Degree in Engineering or Construction or relevant proven experience
  • Previous experience of working on multiple disciplined projects within an EPCM
  • environment is essential
  • P6 and/or Microsoft Project knowledge essential.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Project lifecycle.
  • Excellent presentation, communication and negotiation skills are a must.
