OVERVIEW & ROLE DESCRIPTION

My client, a leading international manufacturer are looking to recruit an experienced Cost Estimator to join the business on a permanent basis. The successful individual will be required to maintain current costs in the system and supply the sales department with relevant cost information associated with special orders. The ideal candidate will ideally have worked within a costing/ purchasing role within a manufacturing environment with a strong analytical background. Candidates must have demonstrable experience working with SAP with exposure to BOMs/costings.
Duties :

•Become familiar with production routing and manufacturing disciplines
•Understand the costing system and rates used in the compilation of an estimate
•Develop a close working relationship with the internal sales teams to ensure that the requirements of the customer/project are fully understood
•Prepare estimates in a timely manner allowing for management authorisation time when it is required using the pre-set Company format.
•Work within the Purchasing Department and supply base directly so that accurate lead times, transport and pricing information is used on the estimate
•Discuss manufacturing methods and capabilities with the Operations Managers and the Lean Leader as required
•Understand cost inflation and currency exchange influences on costs for a project which extend for several months
•Maintain a good audit trail of the build up to an estimate highlighting assumptions made and contingencies provided
•Assist in the preparation of the customer’s quotation as required on spares and finished product
•Assist in the pre-selection of bids to identify quickly ones which are not suitable for the company
•Create and maintain standard price lists for products and spares across all brands
•Work with Finance function to verify current cost before they are rolled into standard
•Work with S&OP as required to understand cost implications of stock holding, supply chain variations and business needs
•Be involved with special projects as and when required, provide cover to assist with the MRP and associated reports

Qualifications/ Requirements

•Previous experience in a cost estimating role in a manufacturing environment
•Good understanding of the principle of purchasing
•Good understanding of manufacturing processes
•Good interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain strong inter-department working relationships
•Ability to work under pressure, prioritise multiple tasks, and bring tasks to complete closure
•Excellent communication skills; verbal, written and presentation
